Shinigami

Shinigami for the most part are the good guys of the hit manga Bleach. They have also been known to go by Soul Reaper or Death God. The only other kind of shinigami would be a substitute shinigami. That has been rarely seen but not completely unheard of. Unlike normal shinigami Substitute Shinigami have a living body but lack the ability to use kidou.

Ways Of Becoming A Shinigami
Most ways for someone to become a shinigami is death. Once dead the spirit will then become what is called a Plus. A plus is a spitting image of the deceased with the minor chance of having a chain of fate attached to it's chest in most cases. The plus soul would have to be found by another shinigami and have the soul burial technique used on them sending them to the spirit world. If they are not found in time though. They will be turned into a hollow.

The only other known way is to be given the powers of another shinigami. Which is illegal unless certain conditions are met. And permission is given by higher authority. Any other way is unknown.

Once dead the Plus soul if given the right kind of training could become a Death God. Or in this case a shinigami. This is mainly gained by 6 years of training in the shinigami academy. Where souls are taught everything they will need to know to start service as a shinigami and gain there zanpaktou.

Shinigami Weapons
The weapons of an normal shinigami would be his/hers zanpaktou and kidou ability. Kidou serve many purposes in a shinigami's life be it to heal or destroy someone. Kidou being much like a form of magic is rated by number and then given a spell to perform. Most kidou can be performed without the use of spell but weakens the kidou. The zanpaktou of a shinigami is a very mysterious weapon. Also known as a soul slayer. The zanpaktou normally takes on the form of a bladed weapon very close to a japanese Katana.

The zanpaktou is forged out of a part of the owners soul and created by an own inner spirit. By having close contact and greater understanding of your zanpaktou. All new worlds of power could open up. Such as Shikai which is the first phase after learning the name of the zanpaktou. Then Bankai after showing your zanpaktou you are worthy of it's true power after being able to manifest it into the world and complete a task it asks of you.

Shunpo
One of the shinigami's most valuable abilities. Shunpo has been known to take on many forms when mastered by certain gifted shinigami. Such as Byakuya, Soi Fong, and the goddess of flash herself. Yoruichi. By gaining greater understanding of the way of flash step or shunpo. Through years of training one could make it there own and put there own chapter into the art of shunpo. Seeing that it's a very fluid technique and can easily be manipulated through hard work and training.

Styles Of Combat
Zankensoki: Zan referring to the art of swordsmanship ken unarmed fighting stly. So which means moving techniques and then finally ki which stands for kidou. By mastering Zankensoki one could be called a master shinigami and even rival one such as Aizen or Yammamoto.

Duties Of A Shinigami
Soul Burial (konsō): the process by which a Shinigami sends wandering Pluses (souls) in the living world and send them to their respective place. Either Soul Society if they are good in life, or to Hell if their life was full of evil acts (such as murders, theft, etc). Soul Burial is performed by using the hilt of the Shinigami's Zanpakutō, tapping the soul on the head and transporting them to the afterlife.

Hollow Cleansing: When a Shinigami slays a Hollow (evil spirit), with their Zanpakutō they cleanse their sins. Once this takes place a Hollow will return to it's former state as a Plus and is led into Soul Society. This is called sublimation. Souls that live in the Soul Society are reborn again into the human world. Not all Hollows are sent to the Soul Society. Hollows are sent to the Soul Society. Hollows that commited serious crimes when they were alive are sent to Hell.

Also, if they are destroyed by a Quincy, Hollows are completely vanquished and cannot ever return to the Soul Society.

Soul Governance: Shinigami are responsible for governing the flow of spirits between the human worlds and Soul Society. This is commonly carried out by balancing the total number of souls by moving and managing them in the human world. All of the soul-related jobs are under their authority.

Hollows

The Hollow are for the most part the weaker enemies of Bleach, they usually feast on Plus souls although some do like to each Shinigami and on rare occasion humans. When the regular souls do not satisfy them they will then go after their own kind and feed on them in order to transform. There are currently four levels of Hollow which will be listed below.

How to become a Hollow
The three known ways of becoming a Hollow is simple, the first is by avoiding Shinigami as a Plus and allowing the Soul Chain to completely erode. When the chain erodes the soul begin to change and eventually become a Hollow and begin feasting as well. The Plus can last up to a week before the chain completely erodes.

The second way is to actually be devoured by another Hollow, as shown when Orihime's brother turned into one he was attacked by multiple Hollow and became one very quickly. This process is much quicker than allowing the chain to erode and usually results in the Hollow immediately attacking their family members and other souls.

The third and final way is to actually disturb the Soul Chain on the persons chest, if it is ripped away from the chest(or in Demi Hollow's if the Hollow hole is messed around with) it will result in a painful transformation into a Hollow.

Hollow Powers
The Hollow do not have much power as most are limited to biting and using their claws if they have any, the Menos Grande have Cero and the Adjuchas have their own set of powers. There are some Hollow such as Grand Fisher that have unique abilities and are usually stronger than the average Hollow.

The four Levels of Hollow are Menos Hollow, Menos Gillian, Menos Adjuchas, and Menos Vasto Lorde. I will list them below.

Vizards

The Vizard are Shinigami who have gone under the Hollowfication process by two different means, these Vizard have no affiliation with Soul Society or Hueco Mundo and they are outlawed by SS. There are few that have managed to elude Soul Society for so long as any customs are usually killed on sight.

How to become a Vizard
There are three main ways to become a Vizard and the first is the process of Hollowfication, this can be done several ways such as using the Orb Aizen had or other experiments such as injecting Hollow reiatsu or other pieces. This way is not practiced and completely outlawed by Soul Society, the orb is in Aizen's possession and it is unknown whether or not he has used it for that purpose.

The second way is by someone getting a piece of a Hollow inside you, this is done by accidentally eating a fragment of their mask or a Vizard's own mask. There are many ways to get a piece of the Hollow inside you and fairly easy if something goes wrong, but the moment it happens you are outlawed by Soul Society and immediately killed on sight should you be found.

The third is the process of Ichigo which is very difficult to do and the survival rate is slim to none, you can allow the chain to erode and in the process of becoming a Hollow you can stop the transformation and gain your Shinigami powers back(if you are already a Shinigami, humans cannot do this) which opens up the transformation.

Vizard Weapons
These are generally the same as the Shinigami as they too can use Kidou unless they are like Ichigo and a substitute, but their main weapon is of course their Zanpakuto. The Zanpakuto as we all know is apart of their soul and allows for a Shikai and Bankai release and most Vizard, excluding about two of the canons all use their Zanpakuto to do battle.

The Hollow mask is another form of their weapon as they can access their masks, which allows them to merge their Hollow powers with their Zanpakuto. This opens up the power to use the basic Hollow abilities such as Cero or Bala if trained even developing their own techniques. The mask also grants a boost in power bumping up the persons rank by one level, increasing their overall power.

Shunpo
The Shunpo is of course just like the Shinigami's and all of them have access to it, as of now we do not know whether or not they can use Sonido so until further notice they are exactly like Shinigami and can become Shunpo masters and after receiving the proper training can create their own variation of it.

Arrancar

The Arrancar are for the most part the main villains of Bleach, there is a variation of their name labeled as Arankaru. They do not use Kidou like Shinigami but instead have abilities called Hollow Techniques which is Cero, Bala and other abilities they possess.

Ways To Become an Arrancar
There are only two real ways of becoming an Arrancar that are currently known, first off the person will start as a plus and if their soul is not sent to Soul Society the chain on their chest begins to erode. When this chain is completely eroded(Or they are devoured by another hollow) they will go through the evolutions of Hollow to reach the Arrancar.

The first main way known of becoming an Arrancar is by ripping off their own Hollow mask, this can only be done by Gillian+ level Hollow to be able to successfully transform but they gain no boosts in power, if they do it is very small and hardly noticeable. It generally leaves them at a weaker power than most Arrancar who use the second means of transformation.

That second transformation is by using Aizen's Hōgyoku to remove the mask for them, when this is done it actually gives them a boost in power and in most cases gives them more strength than a natural Arrancar. This process is actually called Shinigamification and grants them a more Shinigami like side, completely ridding them of the need to feed on souls.

Arrancar Weapons
They like the Shinigami have two main weapons that they use in combat, both are used mostly for destruction. The first is the ability to use Hollow Techniques such as Cero or Bala, as of now we do not know if healing Hollow abilities exist except for High Speed Regeneration which is a self heal. These techniques are used strictly for destroying their opponents completely, there are also currently no binding abilities.

The second weapon is their Zanpakuto but it is much different than a Shinigami, it is not part of their souls but instead it is actually a seal for their true power. When they use their release phrase it actually allows them to use the powers they had as a Hollow and Espada level Arrancar Ressureccion is equivalent to a Shinigami's Bankai.

Sonido
This ability is the equivalent to a Shinigami's Flash step though it does not take years of training like most, Arrancar are usually granted this ability upon transformation but it is also slightly faster than Shunpo. Almost all Arrancar have been shown to use this ability the exception being Nnoitra, some Arrancar have increased Sonido speed such as Stark and have been shown to easily out maneuver Captain's as fast as Shunsui.

Levels of Arrancar

As we know the Shinigami all have different Captain's and each Squad has their own duties, the Arrancar have something similar to this and they work somewhat in the same fashion. These will be labeled below.

Quincy

The Quincy are spiritually aware Humans who developed their own powers to do combat with the Hollow, instead of purifying Souls like the Death Gods they actually completely destroy the souls and upset the balance of the world. They were killed off in battle with Shinigami and only two known Quincy remain.

How to become a Quincy
There is only one way to become a Quincy and that is to be born from a Quincy family and trained from a young age, although they are Humans it is not possible to teach a regular spiritually aware human how to use their powers. If you are born and trained from a young age you will be able to use your powers and form your bow via Quincy cross.

Quincy Weapons
The Quincies do not use weapons anything like Shinigami, they have no Kidou and they have no Zanpakuto. They instead use a bow made of spirit particles collected from the areas around them, they absorb Reishi instead of using Reiatsu and in places like Soul Society or Hueco Mundo they become stronger because of the great amount of Reishi in the area. It has been shown that their bow may even change shape by growing larger and more powerful.

The second set of weapons they use are the Quincy silvertubes or the Sanrei glove, each has their own purpose in aiding the Quincy. The silvertubes are filled with collected Reishi and used in combat for both defensive and offensive abilities and activated by commands. The Sanrei glove is used to help increase their power but it requires training of shooting arrows nonstop for one week straight, it separates the particles in the air making the bow forming harder so if the Quincy is able to form the bow and use it with the required time they will gain a boost in power. If the glove is removed it releases all the Quincy's power at once giving them the Quincy final form, but when the ability is over they will lose their powers and revert to being a normal spiritually aware human.

Hirenkyaku
This ability is the equivalent to Shinigami Shunpo and Arrancar Sonido, though Uryru states it is faster than a Shunpo although it depends on the users and how fast they can move. It is used by gathering spirit particles under their feet and 'gliding' through the air to the desired location.

Bounto

Bounts are living beings just as Quincy are, but the difference being they have a special component that is encompassed by a Human soul. Bounts absorb Human souls, making them their own. It is these abilities that have named Bounts at various times in Human history as "vampires". As the accidental creations of a Shinigami scientist, they were once affiliated with Soul Society. Currently the Bounts in general are only a small tribe of beings from what they once were. Due to their circumstance they are neither affiliated with Soul Society nor the living world, they are pariahs, accepted in neither dimension.

The natural abilities they possess due to their unique creation differentiate them from normal Humans and even Qunicy. These abilities include:

Soul Absorption: Bounts normally try to absorb the Human's soul after the person dies and is trying to pass on. But they are also capable of taking the souls of those who are living, to do so kills the Human.
Immortality: By absorbing Human souls, a Bount can live forever. When they absorb Human souls, they gain eternal life.
Empowerment: By taking the souls of living Humans, Bounts gain unique abilities.


Dolls


Bounts, being created as variations on a Shinigami soul, have similar powers to Shinigami. The foremost of these powers is the Bount doll, a familiar equivalent to the Shinigami's Zanpakutō. Like a Zanpakutō, a doll is its creator's power given physical form. Also like a Zanpakutō, a doll's personality is much like its creator's, though the dolls seem to have more personality variation than the Zanpakutō spirits seen thus far.

The main difference between a doll and a Zanpakutō is how they operate. Unlike a Zanpakutō, whose personality is generally dormant except when the Shinigami wishes to speak to them, a doll's personality is always dominant. Dolls are self-sufficient when released, though they can easily be resealed. The Bounts' ability to control their doll is largely based on their individual power and relationship with the doll. Moreover, if either the doll or its Bount partner sustains severe damage in a battle, the Bount may lose control over his doll, depending on the amount of damage dealt. If a doll is injured, it will simply return itself to its sealed state. However, should its master be injured, the doll may go berserk and kill its master, as Ugaki and Mabashi's dolls did. A doll may also kill a Bount who is not powerful enough to contain it, as was the case with Cain. Bounts with a genuine bond with their dolls can transgress this (but only if their interaction goes well beyond that of between master and slave), however, as shown by Yoshino's doll's loyalty towards his master to the point where he refused to leave her side to fulfill her final wish: for her to be merged with him.

Like a Zanpakutō, dolls are generally sealed into an object and released as necessary (Gō Koga's doll, for example, is sealed into a metal sphere but his hidden doll is merged with him by his special abilities). The object varies greatly from person to person and is often an expression of the doll's abilities. In order to call upon a Bount's doll, the phrase "Zeige Dich" is said, which is a German phrase meaning "Show yourself."
